A passenger went overboard from Carnival Panorama while the cruise ship was returning from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Long Beach, California, triggering a shipwide search and a response involving U.S. and Mexican authorities.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred Saturday, Sept. 19, during the final day of a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that a male guest went overboard while the ship was sailing toward Long Beach.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Coast Guard\u2019s Rescue Coordination Center Alameda was notified Saturday afternoon and coordinated the search. Fixed-wing aircraft were deployed, while Mexican Navy units and commercial vessels in the area also assisted, NBC Los Angeles reported.<\/p>\n
Carnival said its crew began search and investigation procedures after the passenger was reported missing. The crew reviewed surveillance footage and notified the U.S. and Mexican Coast Guards.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarnival is providing support to the family who was traveling with the guest,\u201d the cruise line said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The passenger was identified by NBC Los Angeles as a 56-year-old man. His name had not been publicly released, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.<\/p>\n
ABC7 Los Angeles reported that passengers were instructed to return to their staterooms while crew members conducted a shipwide search. After reviewing the ship\u2019s man-overboard camera footage, the captain announced that the guest had been confirmed overboard and that local authorities would continue search-and-rescue efforts.<\/p>\n
The ship had departed Long Beach on Sept. 13 and visited destinations along Mexico\u2019s Pacific coast before beginning its return voyage.<\/p>\n
