Completion is roughly one year out for a new student housing complex at the Compton College <\/a>campus, per a social media post from the school.<\/a><\/p>\n

The project, which we last saw in January,<\/a> occupies a 2.8-acre site along Main Campus Drive to the south of Greenleaf Boulevard. The housing complex is comprised of interconnected three-story structures which will feature 151 one- and two-bedroom suites, providing room for up to 251 homeless and low-income students.<\/p>\n

HPI Architecture<\/a> is designing the project, which will be centered on a landscaped central courtyard, and is composed of prefabricated modular units.<\/p>\n

The project is funded in large part by grants totaling more than $80 million under AB 183<\/a>. The total estimated cost of the development is $83 million.<\/p>\n

Completion is expected in late Summery 2027.<\/p>\n

Other local community colleges, including Long Beach Community College<\/a>, are also in the process of building student on their campuses. A 2024 report <\/a>concluded that one quarter of California community college students had experienced homelessness in the preceding year.<\/p>\n
