FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — When fueling in Fresno, many drivers are now looking for the cheapest gas possible.<\/p>\n
Prices at the pump rose 21.4 cents per gallon on average in the last week.<\/p>\n
Drivers paid about $6.09 per gallon on Monday.<\/p>\n
For most people, commuting to work is essential to cover expenses.<\/p>\n
Angel Ramirez says because of rising costs, he chose driving to his job, over driving to his college classes.<\/p>\n
“I had to take them all online now, because the college is like 10 minutes from me… the gas is insane right now,” said Ramirez.<\/p>\n
It’s not the only adjustment he’s made.<\/p>\n
He says two days ago, he downloaded the GasBuddy app to find the lowest-priced gas.<\/p>\n
Other drivers tell me they’ve done the same, but that it’s not always accurate.<\/p>\n
“It says that it’s $5.37 on the app, and then when I get here, it’s $5.57,” said Kevin, another Fresno driver.<\/p>\n
AAA says one way to mitigate that is to pay attention while driving your regular routes and compare cash prices to credit and debit costs.<\/p>\n
“Another thing you could do is drive the speed limit. Most cars, the fuel economy peaks around 55 miles per hour, and it starts to drop off as you drive faster than that. So, driving the speed limit, not only can it be safer, it could also help you save up to 15 percent on your fuel economy,” said Doug Johnson, a spokesperson from AAA Northern California.<\/p>\n
Experts also say in practicing fuel efficiency, make sure you’re putting the proper fuel in your tank.<\/p>\n
To avoid problems, always check your car’s manual to see if it needs premium gas.<\/p>\n
“I understand people want to run the cheaper gas because of the gas prices. It’s something that won’t leave you on the side of the road, but could give you a check engine light and running rough conditions, so, just stick to the premium stuff,” said mechanic Richard Villa, owner of Richard’s Auto Repair in downtown Fresno.<\/p>\n
