A 3-year-old boy from Pontiac is being recognized for saving his mom\u2019s life after he used her phone to call for help when she was having a medical emergency. <\/p>\n
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard held a news conference on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to recognize Cody for his quick thinking. <\/p>\n
His mother, Shantell Woods, said that she had just finished cooking and felt a little dizzy, so she sat on the couch. <\/p>\n
Woods said after about 10 minutes, she could \u201cfeel her epilepsy coming on\u201d and said, \u201cPlease don\u2019t let this happen.\u201d (You can watch Shantell Woods\u2019 full interview at the bottom of this article.)<\/p>\n
As soon as she said that, Woods said she \u201cwas out.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the time, Cody was upstairs watching TV, but had come down and tried to wake her up.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was trying to get me up, \u2018mommy, mommy, are you okay? Mommy.\u2019 I\u2019m hearing him, but I couldn\u2019t respond,\u201d Woods recalled. <\/p>\n
Cody then went to the door and called out a family friend\u2019s name for help, but after getting no response, he grabbed his mother\u2019s phone. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, he grabbed my phone, took my glasses off, opened my phone,\u201d Woods said. He tried to call 911, but I guess they couldn\u2019t understand, so he hung up.\u201d<\/p>\n
After that, he called their family friend, said \u2018Help mommy,\u201d and she rushed over to help. <\/p>\n
When asked if she\u2019s ever taught him how to do this before, Woods said she did, and he and his older sister know what to do in the event of an emergency. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very proud of him,\u201d Woods said. \u201cVery proud. Because he saved my life. I could have been gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s my superhero,\u201d Woods said.<\/p>\n
During the new conference, Bouchard recognized Cody\u2019s actions with a few gifts, including a gift certificate for Chuck E. Cheese so Cody can throw a party for his upcoming birthday, some sheriff\u2019s office swag, an ice cream cake and more. <\/p>\n
Bouchard also used this as a reminder about the importance of parents teaching their children how to respond during emergencies. <\/p>\n
