Cal State San Marcos is increasing patrols on campus after four rapes were reported at the residence halls within three weeks of each other, an official with the university confirmed to NBC 7 on Monday night.<\/p>\n
The incidents reportedly occurred from Sept. 5 to 18, Director of Strategic Communications, Jerry McCormick, said. <\/p>\n
The Sept. 5 incident occurred at The Quad Residence Hall; the Sept. 6 incident happened at the University Village Apartments; the Sept. 13 incident at Black Oak Hall; and the Sept. 18, incident at The Quad Residence Hall, McCormick said.<\/p>\n
All incidents are unrelated to each other, respectively.<\/p>\n
In each case, the people involved knew each other, McCormick added.<\/p>\n
The first six weeks of the fall semester at universities across the nation are often called the \u201cRed Zone,\u201d due to a heightened risk of campus sexual violence.<\/p>\n
“Sexual assault is never acceptable and is never the survivor\u2019s fault. Consent must be affirmative, voluntary and ongoing. It cannot be assumed because people know one another or have an existing relationship, and a person who is incapacitated cannot consent,” McCormick said.<\/p>\n
“We want students who experience sexual violence to feel supported in coming forward.
