There has been a lot of speculation about who the San Jose Sharks are considering as the franchise\u2019s 13th captain.<\/p>\n
It is assumed that Macklin Celebrini<\/a> will eventually be given the \u2018C\u2019, and he is still a possibility this season. Sharks GM Mike Grier has remained coy about what the team is thinking, saying the decision won\u2019t be rushed.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have any updates on any of that stuff. Someone in May said I made a decision on it, so you know I\u2019ll keep that internal,\u201d Grier said on Thursday. \u201cIt\u2019s conversations I\u2019ll have with the staff here and the coaches, and if it\u2019s something we decide to do, then you guys will know.\u201d<\/p>\n ESPN\u2019s Emily Kaplan<\/a> reported at the end of May that Celebrini would be the Sharks\u2019 next captain.<\/p>\n That last sentence stands out. Since Logan Couture<\/a> retired due to injury, the team has run with multiple alternate captains. Tyler Toffoli<\/a> was the only player with an \u2018A\u2019 in every game last season. Celerbrini and Barclay Goodrow<\/a> joined him at home. Alexander Wennberg<\/a> and Mario Ferraro<\/a> were the road alternates.<\/p>\n Grier preached patience on this decision. As a former player in the NHL, the San Jose Sharks GM knows the value of a good captain. <\/p>\n \u201cI think I\u2019ve said before that the captaincy in this league is a very sacred thing to me. It\u2019s very important. It\u2019s not something I\u2019m going to rush to hand out to anyone,\u201d Grier explained. \u201cWhen we do decide to name a captain, it\u2019s hopefully someone who\u2019s going to be captain for a long time.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t really believe in moving the \u2018C\u2019 around every year or every couple of years, whatever it may be. We\u2019ll take our time and make the best decision for the organization and for the players and the group.\u201d<\/p>\n Grier says no rush on naming a captain. Says he says the \u201cC\u201d is sacred in his eyes. He wants whoever wears it for the #SJSharks<\/a> to wear it for a long time.<\/p>\n
