(KGET) &#8212; A couple charged with murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl has been assigned a courtroom for trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Gregory MacDonald, 30, and Chandy McCarthy, 42, on Monday will be transported from jail to the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Charles R. Brehmer, where pretrial motions and jury selection will take place in the ensuing days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">McCarthy, the child&#8217;s mother, and MacDonald, her boyfriend, are each charged with second-degree murder, among other crimes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Oct. 10, 2024, police were called to a home in the 300 block of Vernal Place in central Bakersfield to a report of a child in medical distress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The girl was taken to Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She had bruising over much of her body, according to court filings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police say MacDonald abused the child for months and McCarthy knew about it and did nothing to stop him. In fact, she &#8220;likely contributed,&#8221; an officer wrote in a court filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">MacDonald was previously arrested in Nevada on suspicion of harming the child, according to the filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
