{"id":472537,"date":"2026-09-23T01:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/472537\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T01:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T01:38:09","slug":"teenager-arrested-in-imperial-beach-suspected-in-antisemitic-graffiti-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/472537\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager arrested in Imperial Beach, suspected in antisemitic graffiti case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A teenager suspected of defacing several South Bay homes with antisemitic graffiti and hate symbols was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of a dozen criminal offenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities booked the teen, 18, on suspicion of six counts each of vandalism and causing property damage motivated by civil-rights violations, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdsheriff.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The graffiti, apparently scrawled in ink with a black permanent marker, was discovered on homes on Seacoast Drive and Elm Avenue in Imperial Beach on Sept. 13, Lt. Chris Galve said in a news release. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Six days later, similar hate-oriented tags turned up in an alley behind a residence on Elm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surveillance video helped identify the suspect, according to sheriff\u2019s officials. He was taken into custody at about 3 a.m. Tuesday on the access road where the most recent act of vandalism occurred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time of his arrest, the suspect \u201cwas found in possession of a hand-held electronic device capable of interacting with and analyzing certain wireless signals, including those used by some garage doors, gates and other access systems,\u201d according to Galve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sheriff\u2019s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) assisted due to the hate\u2011crime aspect of the case.
