{"id":47300,"date":"2025-11-11T00:09:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T00:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/47300\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T00:09:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T00:09:11","slug":"california-attorney-general-agency-face-possible-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/47300\/","title":{"rendered":"California attorney general, agency face possible sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">(The Center Square) &#8211; A federal judge ordered the California Department of Education and Attorney General Rob Bonta this week to appear in court and show cause why they should not face sanctions for allegedly misleading the court regarding gender secrecy policies in schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez issued an <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/690e752307c0ae224314bd61_Dkt.%20294_ORDER%20-%20Show%20Cause%20RE%20Sanctions.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:order;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">order<\/a> this week in the case <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/california\/article_f33f1306-62b1-42ca-a254-6164a01e9b83.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mirabelli v. Olson;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Mirabelli v. Olson<\/a>. In October, Benitez officially certified the lawsuit as a class action on behalf of all California parents and teachers who oppose school district policies that conceal children\u2019s gender transitions from their families, also known as Parental Exclusion Policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Under these policies, teachers and administrators are required to use preferred pronouns requested by a student and hide a child\u2019s gender identity from parents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46\/690e74a0189ae235fc69eaed_Ex_parte_Mirabelli_11_7_2025.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:filing;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">filing<\/a> by the Thomas More Society, which represents the plaintiffs, state defendants misrepresented that they had withdrawn the policies, but instead, implemented mandatory teacher training called PRISM, an online program for certificated educators that provides resources to support LGBTQ+ youth in California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis is an egregious attempt to mislead the Court,\u201d the filing stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Peter Breen, executive vice president and head of litigation at the Thomas More Society, said local school district officials continue to deflect responsibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThey know this is a losing legal battle. Now they\u2019ve been caught not only lying to California taxpayers but attempting to mislead the Court to escape accountability.
