Ok, if we do see a shower in the Valley on Monday, you’ll probably be able to walk in-between the raindrops, and count the number of raindrops on 1 hand. It wouldn’t be much. But our skies will continue to run partly to mostly cloudy, and high temperatures will be below normal on this last full day of Summer!<\/p>\n
Our skies turned partly to mostly cloudy on Sunday, which caused high temperatures to drop just a little from Saturday. Merced saw a high temperature of 85 on Sunday, Hanford reached 87, Madera topped out at 88, Fresno hit 89, and Tulare\/Visalia both made it to 90 – warm, but not hot for the last day of the Tulare County Fair.<\/p>\n
An incoming storm from the Pacific is moving over California. This is what brought the clouds to central California on Sunday, and will continue to do so on Monday. Beyond the clouds, moisture is somewhat limited, so while there is a chance of a few sprinkles or even a brief shower in the Valley on Monday, it’s a pretty slim chance. <\/p>\n
However, there is a much better chance of showers and thunderstorms developing in the Sierra Nevada by Monday afternoon, stretching from around Sequoia National Park northward through Yosemite National Park. Any thunderstorms will quickly diminish after sunset.<\/p>\n
Above: Could it be a different flavor of El Ni\u00f1o coming our way? The last Very Strong El Ni\u00f1o in 2015-16 brought merely average rainfall to California, but signs are pointing to this El Ni\u00f1o being wetter.<\/p>\n
The storm will slide east by Tuesday, which is when the sun will return. Highs in the Valley will close out near 90, and Tuesday is the first day of Fall – the Autumnal Equinox is at 5:05 pm PDT Tuesday.<\/p>\n
And after a mild last week of Summer, the first week of Fall will be… hot? It looks that way, as highs return to the middle 90’s by Wednesday, and we’ll be real close to 100 on Thursday.<\/p>\n
But Thursday should be the peak of the heat.
