Cal State Fullerton\u2019s karaoke community is actively rising with the Southern California heat. Each Karaoke Club meeting becomes a night of classic hits, adventures and an experience to remember with an open door to anyone with a desire to sing, rap or give their all on the stage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Club president and founder Bryant Hua, a fourth-year criminal justice major, initially found more difficulty starting his dream club than he expected last spring, until a familiar face came to the rescue.<\/p>\n
\u201cOriginally I had a lot of trouble trying to find a person as a treasurer,\u201d Hua said. \u201cMy sister is the treasurer because I kinda \u2018voluntold\u2019 her a little bit, but we are here, we are able to do the club because of her and I really appreciate the fact that she was there for me and I\u2019m there for her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite its newness, the club has managed to quickly garner popularity since its installment in Spring 2026. Last week at the Titan Theatre, the doors were packed with a line spilling out into the hallway dotted with new faces as well as returning participants.<\/p>\n
Currently, the club has an Instagram following of approximately 570, including 40 active club members. Hua said that their meetings typically have attendees between 30 and 60 people with hopes that the number continues to trend upward.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to meet new people and get to sing my favorite songs and get to perform in front of other people,\u201d said Jason Santos, third-year kinesiology major who joined the club the second week of the semester to indulge in his passion for music.<\/p>\n
At the club meetings, music blasts as members take the stage to perform their favorite songs. Santos transformed from shy to commanding during his performance of the song \u201cTemplars\u201d by Sabaton. Similarly, Hua as a self-proclaimed jazz enthusiast has the go-to song of \u201cMy Way\u201d by Frank Sinatra.<\/p>\n
From heavy metal rock to banda music, the night was filled with visceral love for music that could be felt radiating throughout the members. Taking the stage to sing solo feels less intimidating when the most powerful thing in a room is one another\u2019s vulnerability.<\/p>\n
Jose Molina, third-year and music composition major serenaded the crowd with his performance of \u201cMi Sorpresa Fuiste Ti\u201dby Calibre 50. A sad love song that brings a vibrant splash of Mexican culture. He took the stage with his black sombrero with a green feather , embroidered button-up shirt that had patterns of triangles, waves and a belt with the star and moon with a snake-like pattern around his belt.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s not many opportunities that I\u2019m aware of to sing songs that are Spanish in front of others,\u201d Molina said. \u201cI\u2019m very happy I got the ability to share that, especially songs like that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Future members can look to this club as a unique part of campus life. From K-pop, funk, jazz, rock and banda, this club has everything needed to exercise hidden passions. The Karaoke Club explores themes from 2000s throwbacks to open mic nights where comedians and performers have a chance to share their talents all the way to Disney night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A duo performing \u201cTraitor\u201d by Olivia Rodrigo filled the room with a tension that had the whole audience wanting more.<\/p>\n
Each performance captivated the audience as the night continued on and took a turn from powerful and somber to upbeat mixes, all connected by a larger love for music and singing.<\/p>\n
