The Autry Museum of the American West is in full and festive form all summer long, with events like Autry After Hours, the dance-packed parties brimming with merry motion, and various outdoor film screenings.

But when the end of September arrives, and temperatures have dipped, at least a bit, a certain cherished celebration takes the centerstage at the Griffith Park destination: It’s the museum’s Annual Block Party, an all-ages revelry boasting carnival colorfulness and community cool.

The jamboree returns Sept. 26 with a focus that is all about our spectacular city: “Love Letters to L.A.” is the uplifting theme.

How, though, to choose from all of the delightful and educational and carnival-esque diversions?

Consider joining a grooming workshop presented by Urban Saddles, or enjoy plein art painting by the California Art Club, stroll by vintage autos at the car show, or head inside the museum to take in a few treasure-lined exhibits, displays spotlighting several aspects of western culture.

There’s a Dino Land in 2026, complete with “… life-size dinosaurs, containment fencing, broken dinosaur eggs, weathered research crates, themed photo backdrops, and lush prehistoric foliage,” so rad.

The documentary “Maara’yam: The Yuhaaviatam Story” is screening in the museum’s recently renovated theater, too, so be sure to check times when you arrive. Steve Martin’s “L.A. Story” will also be presented in the on-site cinema.

Live music has always played a central and strum-tastic role at the Annual Block Party, and the line-up is large and vigorous: The Midnight Cowgirls, Las Chorizeras, and several energy-raising artists are on the tune-strong roster.
