Deputy District Attorney Michael Gadeberg told SFGATE by phone Thursday morning that more bodies may be found.<\/p>\n
“Although there’s only two victims it looks like the start of a possible serial killer case and I’m grateful he turned himself in before he continued,” Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old suspect has been charged with two counts of murder and is expected to be arraigned Thursday, Gadeberg said. Castro’s home is listed as an address in south San Jose on charging documents. His alleged motive is still unclear.<\/p>\n
“It appears that this man may have just had a compulsion to kill and he started with someone he knew and then progressed to a random stranger,” Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
Neither of the victims has been identified, according to Gadeberg. Castro told officers he knew the first victim and accompanied him to the area near Tamien Station to smoke methamphetamine before attacking the victim “without provocation” by strangling him and slitting his throat, the police report said. He then dug a shallow grave and put the victim’s body in it, police said.<\/p>\n

Castro told police he “lured” the second victim to an area near the Guadalupe River Trail north of Coleman Avenue “to smoke” before killing him by strangling him and hitting him with a rock, according to the report. He then wrapped the body in a red tent and left the victim in tall grass near the river, the police report said.<\/p>\n
Authorities believe the murder near the train station occurred on Sep. 13th and the second murder happened on either Sep. 15 or 16, Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
The second victim was found in an area that is very popular with runners and families visiting the playground, as well as nearby homeless encampments, Gadeberg said. He said it’s possible the victims were unhoused people but that has not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n
“Those areas are frequented by homeless people but our understanding is that the defendant lured them to those locations,” Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
The deputy district attorney said the heinous case is unlike anything he has previously worked on, and warned more bodies could be discovered.<\/p>\n
“I’ve never seen anything like this, I’ve had a spree killer case and a number of double homicides but I have never had something like this where there is no apparent connection or motive,” Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
