The DA\u2019s Office says it believes the first murder happened on Sept. 13, and the second a few days later.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on that timeline, we\u2019re concerned, had another 24-48 hours passed, we may have had another murder,\u201d Deputy District Attorney Michael Gadeberg said.<\/p>\n
In both cases the motive is still under investigation.<\/p>\n
As of now, Gadeberg says there\u2019s no indication there are more victims, but they\u2019re still investigating.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re certainly still investigating all possible leads and all avenues, I wouldn\u2019t rule out the possibility that there\u2019s another victim and we\u2019re continuing to look into that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears that this is someone who was a thrill killer, that sought these victims out, very vicious crimes and prosecutors can’t take this for granted that these are the only victims out there. I think law enforcement needs to keep an open mind about this case,\u201d legal analyst Steven Clark said.<\/p>\n
Clark says even though investigators have a confession, building a case will still be essential.<\/p>\n
\u201cLaw enforcement cannot take anything for granted in this case, they not only need to use the confession but they need to tie him to these murders forensically, are there witnesses? Is his DNA at the crime scene?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Castro is being held without bail and is expected back in court in December.<\/p>\n
While investigators haven’t commented on his criminal history, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan released a statement, indicating the suspect has one.<\/p>\n
The mayor posted on social media that Castro should be held fully accountable, adding, \u201cBut how does someone rack up six felony convictions, face two more active felony cases, and keep cycling through the system as things get worse? How and why was he released in the first place? At some point, intervention has to mean more than processing the next case and sending someone back out.\u201d<\/p>\n
