CALIFORNIA (FOX26) \u2014 Five Indianapolis police officers are now facing charges after allegedly misusing their access to Flock license plate-reader cameras.<\/p>\n
The five officers are charged with fraud and misconduct.<\/p>\n
One officer resigned.<\/p>\n
The other four were suspended and recommended for termination.<\/p>\n
They are accused of using the Flock system for personal reasons, including tracking the locations of their exes and other women, then interacting with them based on movements tracked by the cameras.<\/p>\n
Nationwide, at least 100 police department employees have been charged with or accused of misusing Flock cameras for unauthorized purposes, according to The Washington Post.<\/p>\n
Many cases involve officers tracking the locations of romantic partners and exes.<\/p>\n
In the wake of the reported abuses, Flock Safety says it is tightening requirements for officers to access and search its database.<\/p>\n
Flock\u2019s legal officer told the Senate that while officers have always been required to justify database searches, the information was entered into a \u201cfree-text field\u201d and often received answers that were not specific.<\/p>\n
Now, according to The Wall Street Journal, Flock is adding a drop-down menu with standardized categories, similar to the FBI\u2019s data-reporting system.<\/p>\n
