It features local artists and students alongside the school’s sports teams and dance squad.<\/p>\n
The anthem incorporates vocals from Mission Music and a cameo from Kidathegoat. Produced by Kenny Agee and mixed by \u201cMacbizzy,” the song uses upbeat background music and lyrical verses to create a sense of community.<\/p>\n

Otis Amey came up with the idea for the song, bringing his experience and Sac State pride to the lyrics. He played football for Sacramento State University in the years 2000-2004, later playing professionally for the 49ers and various teams.<\/p>\n
Currently, he works at Sac State as the director of player development for the football program. He helps mentor student athletes and foster the next generation of Sacramento football.<\/p>\n
“We do a lot of community service, feeding the homeless and going to the Shriners Hospital” Amey said, “We also do mock interviews and connect student athletes with alumni to give them opportunities.”<\/p>\n
After joining the university’s staff in January, Amey came up with the idea for the new Sac State anthem. He wanted the song to not just represent sports and football, but to capture the school as a whole.<\/p>\n
“We definitely want to play this at the stadium, but we also want basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball or anybody on campus to feel like ‘yeah we can play this song,'” Amey said.<\/p>\n
He explained how each verse that he sings is meant to nod to life as a Sac State student, Sacramento pride and the school. For example, he mentions “the City of Trees” “916” and other terms throughout the lyrics.<\/p>\n
Amey also talked about collaboration and how the song originated. He came up with the verses and general idea but worked with Kenny Agee and Mission Music to create the song.<\/p>\n
“I communicated to them here’s the thought of what I want and then really, Mission and Kenny came up with the horns and everything else and it kind of just started to all formulate from there” Amey said.<\/p>\n
Students had different reactions to the anthem. Some talked about its sense of unity and Sac State pride, while others thought it was silly in nature.<\/p>\n
“I like the rhythm, very sticky!” Emilio Garcia, a third-year electrical engineering major, said.<\/p>\n
Garcia’s friend, Cayden Granado, a third-year electrical engineering major, talked about how the anthem emphasizes Sac State pride.<\/p>\n
“I think it perfectly captures the Sac State spirit!” Granado said.<\/p>\n
Allahni Taylor, a first-year health science major, thought the song was interesting, noting different elements.<\/p>\n
“It’s pretty cool because it’s about our school, but it made me giggle” Taylor said.<\/p>\n
