OAKLAND \u2014 A woman who died Wednesday from fatal injuries after she was found unconscious on the Embarcadero was the victim of a hit-and-run collision, authorities said Friday.<\/p>\n
The coroner\u2019s bureau was trying to confirm the woman\u2019s name on Friday and her place of residence. She is believed to be between 25 and 35.<\/p>\n
The woman was found with head and other injuries about 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Embarcadero, a mostly commercial area. She was taken to a hospital where she died.<\/p>\n
The death was initially classified as suspicious and was preliminarily investigated by the homicide unit.<\/p>\n
But a subsequent autopsy determined the woman\u2019s injuries were consistent with someone struck by a vehicle and the case has been turned over to traffic investigators.<\/p>\n
Police are trying to determine what the woman was doing in the area. Investigators believe she was struck by a vehicle going eastbound on Embarcadero but do not have a description so far of the vehicle or the driver.<\/p>\n
Investigators are seeking any witnesses or video that might assist in the investigation.
