The police department\u2019s social-media post Friday morning correspondingly described the incident as a \u201cfatal hit and run vehicle collision.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Hernandez said officers determined at the scene that the involved motorist, a man driving a white 2017 Ford F-350 pickup truck, had actually pulled over further down East Capitol Expressway \u2014 a busy and often high-speed thoroughfare during commute hours \u2014 and later cooperated with traffic investigators.<\/p>\n
Police said in a news release that the northbound pickup driver was passing through the intersection on a green light when he hit the bicyclist, and that there was no indication that the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol. No arrest or citation was announced.<\/p>\n
The collision marked the city\u2019s 37th traffic death of the year investigated by San Jose police, and the sixth to involve a bicyclist who died, according to data compiled by this news organization. There were 27 roadway deaths, none of them bicyclists, in the city at the same point in 2025.<\/p>\n
