(FOX26) \u2014 A long-awaited overhaul of one of Fresno\u2019s busiest roads is moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>City leaders say they now have a plan and funding to repave Shaw Avenue from Highway 99 to Highway 41.<\/p>\n<p>Councilmember Mike Karbassi said, \u201cWell, if you see a smile on my face today, it&#8217;s because the long wait is over. I gotta tell you, this is my seventh year on the council. For at least 20 years, residents and business owners have pleaded with their city leaders to fix this broken promise to fix Shaw Avenue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The project is divided into eight sections, with some work already done and other sections underway.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Jerry Dyer says more paving is set to begin the week of October 5th, and drivers should expect lane reductions and traffic delays during construction.<\/p>\n<p>The city says the vast majority of work will be completed by the end of 2027.<\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/local\/hot-air-balloons-lift-off-as-clovisfest-marks-its-51st-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hot air balloons lift off as ClovisFest marks its 51st year<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The final section between College Avenue and Highway 41 is scheduled for spring of 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Dyer says the full project represents a $ 12.3-million investment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
