I still have a lot of friends on that team. That’s why winning meant so much.”

The Knights, who are 4-1 and ranked No. 56 in the state, took the opening kickoff and drove to the Lincoln 6. But a fourth-down pass into the end zone was incomplete.

A second-quarter drive to the Lincoln 4 ended in a missed 21-yard field goal.

In the fourth quarter, after Lincoln had scored to make it 7-6, San Marcos drove to the Lincoln 1 with Roa hitting Green for gains of 12 and 38 yards, only to lose a fumble.

The defense did its job as brothers Ezekiel and Xzavier McIntyre intercepted passes, Xzavier’s was at the San Marcos 17 with 23 seconds to play.

And Lincoln, which is now 1-5 for the first time since 2013, shot itself in the foot.

A celebration penalty after its touchdown made the tying PAT try a 45-yarder. It was short.

“I don’t throw to Sean Green much, but I trust him to make a big catch,” Roa said. “I told him to be alert because I had a feeling I’d find him.

“Bottom line, we beat a good Lincoln team.
