When he was two years old, his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Buffalo, New York.

Paul attended the Calasanctius School, a private Catholic school for gifted children. In 1966, he left Buffalo to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder. There, in 1968, he met Claudia Maer.

During the Vietnam War era, Paul was drafted into the United States Army and entered Officer Candidate School in 1969. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While in the Army, Paul learned to fly light aircraft and to parachute.

Paul and Claudia were married in Denver on January 9, 1971, and began their married life together in North Carolina. Paul and Claudia built a life together that spanned more than 55 years.

After leaving the Army in 1972, they moved to Los Angeles, where Paul worked for Northwestern Mutual selling life insurance. They first lived in a small apartment in Culver City and later bought a home in La Crescenta.

In 1977, Paul and Claudia moved to Denver, where their first two children, Marni and Christopher, were born. The family later moved to San Diego, where their third child, Jason, was born.

In San Diego, Paul worked for a savings and loan company in real estate financing. Following the savings and loan crisis, he began a career with the federal government at the Resolution Trust Corporation, helping oversee and resolve failing savings and loan institutions. Paul later joined the General Services Administration, where he managed federal buildings and offices. He spent the remainder of his career in federal service, retiring in 2025.

Paul enjoyed a highly successful career, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a loving father who was both playful and business-like in raising his three children, cheering them on at youth sports events and playing with them in the backyard, while also teaching them how to navigate the world. His oldest child, Marni says she gets her public speaking skills from their dad, his son Christopher gets his analytical skills from their dad, and Jason credits his negotiating skills from their father.

Paul departed his earthly life on September 10, 2026, at the age of 78. From his beginnings in Munich, to Buffalo, Colorado, the United States Army, and ultimately San Diego, Paul lived a full and remarkable life. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, three children and their partners, and two grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.

sandiegouniontribune.com/obituaries/outstream_video” data-targeting=”>

Paul U. von Wilpert OBITUARY Ulie Paul Nelson von Wilpert Bielicki, known as Paul, was born on Tuesday,…

[28
74,76,75
post-477251","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-diego","tag-san-diego","tag-san-diego-headlines","tag-san-diego-news
["GET
