A ground breaking was held this weekend for an affordable housing development adjacent to a trolley station in La Mesa, according to county officials.<\/p>\n
Local leaders and elected officials participated in the ground breaking Friday for the Spring View Apartments, a 147-unit affordable housing development directly next to the San Diego Trolley’s La Mesa’s Spring Street stop.<\/p>\n
The $106 million, six-story building will be made up of affordable studios and apartments with one, two, and three bedrooms. The units are being built for individuals, families and veterans earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income, officials said.<\/p>\n
The development is located on surplus land owned by the Metropolitan Transit System, in an effort to\u00a0transform an underused portion of a park-and- ride lot into housing that’s connected to public transportation, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Affirmed Housing real estate development company is building Spring View through a public-private partnership dedicated to adding more affordable homes in the region. <\/p>\n
The County is contributing $8.5 million to the project, and supplying 40 project-based vouchers, including four Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers and 36 Section 8 vouchers to help maintain long-term affordability, the county said in a news release.<\/p>\n
The Spring View Apartments will feature outdoor gathering spaces, children play areas, a basketball hoop, barbecue stations, a community room, activity centers, and computer rooms, according to officials.<\/p>\n
The development will also have on-site solar energy and high- efficiency building systems to support sustainability goals.<\/p>\n
The County has invested over $330 million in affordable housing infrastructure since 2017.
