After more than 20 years of planning, Sacramento\u2019s Dos Rios light rail station opens to riders<\/p>\n

Sacramento Regional Transit opened its new Dos Rios light rail station to passengers Monday morning, expanding Blue Line service into Sacramento\u2019s growing River District.<\/p>\n

The first passenger train stopped at the new station at 4:02 a.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Dos Rios Station is located along North 12th Street between Richards Boulevard and Sunbeam Avenue, between the Globe and Alkali Flat\/La Valentina stations. SacRT says the station will provide better transit access for people who live and work in the area, including residents of nearby affordable housing communities such as Mirasol Village.<\/p>\n

The station has been more than two decades in the making. SacRT began studying the feasibility of a Dos Rios light rail station in 2005. A June 2005 analysis found a station in the area was technically feasible, and the agency continued evaluating possible locations later that year.<\/p>\n

Construction on the current station began in November 2024 and was completed this month. The $42.8 million project was completed four months ahead of schedule and remained on budget, according to SacRT.<\/p>\n

The agency held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 10, but the station remained closed to passengers while SacRT waited for final regulatory approval from the California Public Utilities Commission. That approval has since been received, allowing regular passenger service to begin Monday.<\/p>\n

Blue Line trains will stop at Dos Rios seven days a week. SacRT says trains are scheduled to arrive about every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during early-morning, evening and other off-peak periods.<\/p>\n

The station is expected to improve connections to jobs, housing, health care and other services as residential and commercial development continues in the River District.<\/p>\n

SacRT is also preparing to open another new light rail station. The 7th & Railyards Station on the Green Line is expected to begin passenger service in mid-October.<\/p>\n

SacRT also plans to discontinue bus Route 33 because the agency says it duplicates service now provided by the Dos Rios station. Route 33 is expected to continue for about two weeks before being replaced by Route 133, which will operate one morning trip Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n
