A mother is seeking answers and accountability in her 18-year-old son\u2019s death after the Cal State Fullerton student died <\/a>after attending an off-campus fraternity event.<\/p>\n

Anthony Joseph Blas died Sept. 13 after he was unresponsive at the event and dropped off at St. Jude Medical Center\u2019s emergency department. The Fullerton Police Department said alcohol consumption appeared to have been a contributing factor to the student\u2019s death. Now, two weeks later, Blas\u2019 grieving mother is breaking her silence as she seeks accountability.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnthony is not here,\u201d Linda Blas, the teen\u2019s mother, said. \u201c\u2026This is our new reality. I don\u2019t know how I\u2019m going to get through this.<\/p>\n

Linda Blas said her son was just two weeks into his freshman year at Cal State Fullerton when his death happened. She adds that he was excited to have recently been accepted into a fraternity.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe calls at 11, 12, and he tells me, \u2018Mom, they called. I\u2019m in! I\u2019m in!\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cHe was excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was the last time the two spoke.<\/p>\n

Fullerton police said a group of people took the student to the area hospital after he became unresponsive while at the event. Law enforcement confirmed 911 was not called.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can\u2019t hide,\u201d Linda Blas said. \u201cYou can\u2019t be the hero and say, \u2018Oh, we took him to the hospital.\u2019 You can\u2019t hide behind the good Samaritan cloak, because you didn’t. There\u2019s a fire house two blocks from the fraternity house. I don\u2019t know if that would save him, but I want to believe it could have or given him a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Anthony\u2019s death, Fullerton police said in a news release that they did not consider hazing or foul play to be a factor. However, they added that they aren\u2019t completely ruling anything out as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody needs to be held responsible for serving liquor,\u201d Linda said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what they served to minors, because he sure as heck couldn\u2019t get it; His license says 18.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cal State Fullerton said the fraternity involved in the investigation is not affiliated with the university. The school is asking anyone with information on the case to call campus police.<\/p>\n
