Each candidate will have 30 minutes to respond to a shared set of questions, followed by 15 minutes of questions from pre-selected audience members, some of whom will represent Jewish organizations and sponsors.

Bass and Raman will participate in separate, back-to-back conversations with Cohen, with opening remarks from Rabbi Noah Farkas, president and CEO of JFEDLA, and Skirball Cultural Center CEO Jessie Kornberg.

The event is being co-hosted by Jewish Federation Los Angeles, the Skirball Cultural Center, ADL Los Angeles, Jewish Family Service LA and AJC Los Angeles, along with 45 community partners. It is expected to draw nearly 1,000 members of the Jewish community, according to organizers.

Bass, who is running for a second term, is facing a challenge from her one-time ally, City Councilwoman Raman, who represents the 4th Council District.

On Sept. 8, Raman criticized Bass for declining to participate in more mayoral debates ahead of the Nov. 3 election. The two faced off during a debate hosted by the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council and Sherman Oaks/Encino Chamber of Commerce in August. The debate was limited to in-person attendees and those watching online via Zoom, but was also broadcast live on LAist radio.

Raman’s campaign said the councilwoman has accepted invitations to participate in debates hosted by NBC4 and Telemundo 52, CBS2 and KNX, ABC7 and Univision 34, and KTLA5 and CNN. Bass has agreed to one televised debate — hosted by NBC4 and Telemundo 52 on Oct. 12 — and has declined others, according to Raman’s campaign.

“Los Angeles residents are confronting enormous challenges: homelessness, housing costs, public safety, affordability, deteriorating infrastructure and basic city services that too often fail to deliver. They deserve a serious, substantive and transparent conversation about the candidates’ records, their competing ideas and the choices facing this city,” according to a statement from Raman’s campaign.

“We hope Mayor Bass will reconsider and join Nithya for more televised debates across different networks and before different communities,” the statement continued.

In response, Alex Stack, a spokesman for Bass’ campaign, said in a statement that “Nithya Raman does not show up for the job taxpayers are paying her to do, and she’s using her position to campaign instead of helping solve Los Angeles’ biggest challenges — so she has plenty of free time.”

“Mayor Bass is running the city to make LA safer and more affordable,” Stack added. “The mayor has already agreed to a dozen forums and debates that are being livestreamed on radio and TV, including the televised NBC4/Telemundo 52 debate.”

Bass and Raman shared their views on the environment and climate during a forum Sept. 3. The event was organized by a coalition of environmental justice, climate, public health and community organizations, including the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, SCOPE LA, Sierra Club, Los Angeles Neighborhood Sustainability Alliance, Communities for a Better Environment and Clean and Healthy California.

Bass and Raman spoke separately during the forum, fielding questions about issues including environmental justice, extreme heat, air pollution, oil drilling, rising energy costs, housing affordability, public safety, emergency response and community health.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilwoman Nithya Raman will appear Tuesday evening at a…

[27
7048,3557,7053,26,7065,7057,4300,7061,7060,7054,7052,7056,7055,7066,6217,48,7068,52,51,47,50,49,7063,7062,973,7069,100,7064,2083,611,1839,4201,6220,7070,7049,7050,7051,7059,7058,7067
post-479457","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-los-angeles","tag-7048","tag-am","tag-bill-handel","tag-breaking-news","tag-broadcasting","tag-conway","tag-eaton-fire","tag-gary-shannon","tag-gary-and-shannon","tag-gary-hoffmann","tag-handel","tag-john-ken","tag-john-and-ken","tag-john-kobylt","tag-kfi","tag-la","tag-la-fires","tag-la-headlines","tag-la-news","tag-los-angeles","tag-los-angeles-headlines","tag-los-angeles-news","tag-los-angeles-radio","tag-los-angeles-talk-radio","tag-media","tag-mo-kelly","tag-news","tag-newstalk","tag-oc","tag-orange-county","tag-palisades-fire","tag-radio","tag-radio-station","tag-santa-ana-winds","tag-stay-connected","tag-stimulating","tag-talk","tag-talk-radio","tag-tim-conway","tag-wild-fire
["GET
