It is expected to hit Southern California with wetter weather and increased rainfall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Ni\u00f1o occurs due to surface ocean temperature increases significantly, leading to large stretches of storms along the ocean. Sending waves across the planet, shifting where storms form, how warm it is, and the amount it rains in certain areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEl Nino tends to be strongest during the winter months, and its global impacts are typically most significant in the northern hemisphere winter.\u201d National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The California state government has already assessed the danger and <a href=\"https:\/\/lamag.com\/news\/governor-gavin-newsom-declares-state-of-emergency-in-californias-historic-el-nino-storm-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">declared a state of emergency<\/a> in order to smoothly mobilize state resources and direct agencies for flood-risk reduction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/impactlab.org\/research\/451000-at-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">projected 451,000 heat related death<\/a> will occur in the first nine months of El Ni\u00f1o worldwide. While most deaths are expected to happen on the southern hemisphere, California is expected to have 1,000 deaths and the United States 3,500 in total.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While these weather events may seem anomalous, they may become the standard of decades in the future. Preparation and prediction of when extreme weather will hit is vital to save lives across regions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coastal erosion may be a serious problem for L.A. residents that own seaside homes. Large waves, storm surges near the coast, and elevated ocean levels pose serious threats to property along the coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was predicted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/programs\/cmhrp\/news\/disappearing-beaches-modeling-shoreline-change-southern-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">study<\/a> in the U.S. Geological Survey that Southern California could lose two-thirds of its beaches by 2100 by rising sea level.
