The San Jose Sharks\u2019 first regular-season practice is complete, and clues to the opening-night lineup are taking shape.<\/p>\n

While the forward lines looked no different on Tuesday than they did against the Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> in the final preseason game, attention is on the defense. Luca Cagnoni<\/a> earned a spot on the roster and will man the<\/a> top power play unit on Thursday. <\/p>\n

\u201cFeels really good. It\u2019s a pretty special moment,\u201d Cagnoni said about making the opening night roster. \u201cGot to celebrate a little bit. Called my parents and told them the news, so they\u2019re obviously really happy too.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the big news still revolves around Sam Dickinson<\/a>. The 2024 NHL Draft<\/a> first-round pick was once again the extra defenseman in line rushes.<\/p>\n

After breaking camp with Jacob Trouba<\/a> as his partner, Dickinson\u2019s spot appears to be usurped by Nolan Allan<\/a>. Allan has impressed head coach Ryan Warsofsky<\/a>, and if these lines hold, he will be in the opening-night lineup over Dickinson on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019d be super cool to be in the opening-night lineup,\u201d Allan told SHD exclusively. \u201cBut at the same time, it\u2019s a long year. Stuff changes every day, so you just got to take it day by day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warsofsky told reporters that the San Jose Sharks lineup against the Florida Panthers<\/a> isn\u2019t set.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth have had really good camps. Again, nothing\u2019s been decided on the lineup, so we\u2019ll continue to progress forward,\u201d Warsofsky said about the battle of defensemen. \u201cI thought both of them played really well against Vegas. <\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to Sam today. He\u2019s in a good spot. He\u2019s going to compete every single day and get better every day. And he\u2019s got a good high level of focus.
