VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) — Flags flew at half-staff Tuesday outside the California Highway Patrol’s Visalia office as colleagues and members of the law enforcement community mourned the loss of Officer Brian Liles.<\/p>\n
Liles began his career with the CHP in the Bay Area after graduating from the CHP Academy and being assigned to the agency’s San Jose office in 2010. Before serving in the South Valley, he worked in the communities of Hayward and Fresno before transferring to Visalia in 2019.<\/p>\n
In March 2025, Liles was honored as CHP Officer of the Year for the Visalia area. His work on and off the road continued to earn recognition in the months that followed.<\/p>\n
In October 2025, Liles was highlighted during Central Division Employee Appreciation Day. Two months later, he became one of the first motorcycle officers assigned to cover Visalia after completing the department’s motorcycle training at the academy, described by the agency as a rigorous 10-day, 84-hour program. The training also included an additional 240 hours alongside a Certified Motor Training Officer.<\/p>\n
The accomplishment was recognized during a ceremony in February, where Liles was honored alongside Sgt. Hicke and Officer Montooth for their commitment, discipline and professionalism.<\/p>\n
The loss has resonated throughout the law enforcement community, including at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, which recently experienced the line-of-duty death of Deputy Randy Hoppert in April.<\/p>\n
In a written statement of support, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said, “The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office knows firsthand the pain that comes with losing one of your own. It’s a pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”<\/p>\n
Liles was 44. He is survived by his wife, two children, parents and siblings.<\/p>\n
