Filipino Heritage Month<\/p>\n
October is Filipino American History Month, aka Filipino Heritage Month, and a few special events are coming up to celebrate!<\/p>\n
Historic Filipinotown\u2014Woon<\/a> and Loqui<\/a> are hosting a sideWOK event on Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 9 p.m., with wok-fried carne asada, slushie shochu margaritas, a complimentary fruit cart and a mariachi band.\u00a0<\/p>\n Silver Lake\/Historic Filipinotown\u2014Manila Inasal<\/a> is hosting a special French-Pinoy dining event on Sunday, Oct. 4, featuring a Filipino and French charcuterie board, a five-course dinner and dessert menu and a curated wine selection from Buvons Wine<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fall flavors brew<\/p>\n Boyle Heights\u2014It’s officially fall and, despite the heat, there are many cafes brewing fall favorites across Boyle Heights.\u00a0Boyle Heights Beat<\/a> has a full list of cafes offering fall beverages, like Cafe Ni\u00f1a’s<\/a> ghost design lattes, Acurr\u00facame Caf\u00e9’s<\/a> Franken-Berry Latte and Beetlejuice matcha and Cafe Cafe Mobile Coffee’s<\/a> butternut squash latte.<\/p>\n Actor plans cafe, gallery?<\/p>\n Silver Lake\u2014Cortado LA<\/a> is coming to Silver Lake Drive. The pop-up concept by actor Jhon Mej\u00eda seems to be a gallery and cafe space, but no word on an official opening date just yet.<\/p>\n
More happenings<\/p>\n Frogtown\u2014Frogtown First Fridays<\/a> is back on Oct. 2 with live music and specials along the L.A. River starting at 5 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n Silver Lake\u2014Red Lion Tavern’s<\/a> Steinholding contest returns this month, with tournaments each Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. Winners get free beer and merch \u2014 and bragging rights.\u00a0<\/p>\n Glassell Park\u2014Bub & Grandma’s<\/a> Nights are moving to weekends starting Saturday, Oct. 3. They’ll still have live jazz on Sundays and dinner and drinks both evenings.<\/p>\n Etc.<\/p>\n Echo Park, Highland Park\u2014Triple Beam Pizza<\/a> is starting a Sports Special on Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Mondays and Thursdays 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Select half pizzas will range from $10 to $15, with an option to add a salad for $10.\u00a0<\/p>\n Silver Lake\u2014Tacos Royale<\/a> is staying open with longer hours starting this week. They’ll be open Thursday and Friday from 1 to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n ICYMI<\/p>\n Echo Park\u2014Tijuanero by Tijuanazo opened in the former Los Burritos spot on Sunset Boulevard on Sept. 24. The venture is led by the Aria Esquival, daughter of the original Tijuana taco cart founders Antonio and Claudia and feels like a homecoming, as Antonio grew up in the area.
