Montana Avenue Art Walk:<\/a> Route 66 is still having its celebratory milestone year, and Montana Avenue will salute the iconic Mother Road’s 100th birthday at a free Art Walk. The sizable event will be extremely strollable \u2014 around 10 blocks of the shop-lined Santa Monica stretch will be closed to traffic \u2014 and toasty, too, so bring a sunhat, sunblock, and so forth. Live music on multiple stages, art pop-ups, a kid’s area presented by UCLA Health, shopping, a classic car show, and a Wellness Pavilion are among the day’s delights. Where and when is the party? Between 7th and 17th Streets along Montana Avenue, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 6 o’clock on Oct. 3.<\/p>\n

Carved at Descanso Gardens:<\/a> Pumpkin patches are starting to achieve full glow as October begins, and gourd-centered celebrations are sprouting. This sylvan spot in La Ca\u00f1ada Flintridge is known for displaying thousands of imaginative pumpkins, and sparkling displays, and illuminated artworks, too, over a full and merry month. Snacks and sips are for sale along the nighttime pathways, and the charming Pumpkin House adds to the autumnal atmosphere. Be sure to look for Nessie, the garden’s beloved sea monster (yep, she’s covered in pumpkins). The fun is flickering nightly from Oct. 2 through Nov. 1.<\/p>\n

San Gabriel Dumpling & Beer Festival:<\/a> Entry is free, sweet, and all ages are welcome, sweet again, and attendees get to savor the specialness of an evening party in the Historic Mission District. Music, activities for kids, and other diversions up the good vibes, as does the line-up of craft brewers and bao-dumpling-gyoza specialists (tacos, sweets, and other treats are present and accounted for, too). While admission is complimentary, there’s a Beer Garden ticket if your 21+ and want to go that route. Parking is limited, so organizers are asking guests to consider ride-share options.<\/p>\n

The Great LA River Cleanup:<\/a> Two Saturdays, hundreds of volunteers, and helping our city’s legendary waterway catch its breath? Roll up those sleeves, or, better yet, wear something cooler to gather trash along the edges of the Los Angeles River Oct. 3 and 10. Presented by the Friends of the Los Angeles River, the annual tidy-up has collected thousands of pounds of debris. All the Light We Leave Behind:<\/a> A meditative, mood-filled concert delivered in a serene space? Such a nice notion bewitches, especially during the autumn. But build the experience around water and light, and the serene scene takes on shimmer, magic, and an ethereal spirit. A limited-time music experience is now “illuminating” a capacious and cool Arts District spot, with a snowy realm and warm tea enhancing the entrance experience. It’s glimmering on select nights through Oct. 11.<\/p>\n

Rare Books LA:<\/a> You don’t need to don a velvet cloak on Oct. 3 and 4, and probably shouldn’t, as a heat wave will be heat waving throughout the weekend. But do wear snazzy, summer-style vampire wear if you’re so inclined and fly, bat-like, for Union Station and this literary revelry. Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire” is turning 50 and the event is paying spooky homage; other vampire stories will also get the eeked-up attention, too.
