Should The New York Times be The Bay Area Times? After declaring that the region has some of the country\u2019s best Mexican cuisine<\/a>, the paper is back with \u201cThe Restaurant List 2026<\/a>,\u201d elevating two Bay Area eateries as destination-level dining spots.<\/p>\n

\u201cA restaurant can be a place like any other \u2014 tables, chairs, staff, food. But a great restaurant is a place like no other,\u201d declares the Times, which put 16 writers on the case of finding the 50 top dining rooms in the U.S.<\/p>\n

In San Francisco, Restaurant Naides<\/a> impressed the critics with its modern Filipino cuisine like fermented shrimp with duck cracklings and sinigang, a \u201cdelightfully sour soup.\u201d And Alice Waters must be beaming, because making the list was her recent offspring, Bar Panisse<\/a>, where chef Amelia Telc\u2019s creativity and \u201creverence for ingredients and rustic cooking\u201d are \u201cvery much in tune with the way we eat right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
