{"id":481992,"date":"2026-10-01T21:16:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T21:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/481992\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T21:16:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T21:16:10","slug":"san-diego-weekend-guide-oct-2-4-cultural-convergence-kicks-off-the-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/481992\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diego Weekend Guide Oct. 2-4: Cultural convergence kicks off the month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if it\u2019s still unseasonally warm going into October, there\u2019s already signs of the fall spirit around town, with both Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos events already on tap, highlighting another cross-cultural mix of things to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, giving us an early start is a binational showcase, San Diego-Tijuana International Jazz Festival, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdtjjazz.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SDTJ Jazz<\/a> for short, which opens tonight with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdtjjazz.org\/thursday-lineup-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">show<\/a> at the Quartyard downtown (1301 Market St. #3) with doors opening at 5 p.m. Events in Tijuana follow on Friday and Sunday, with an all-day event on <a href=\"https:\/\/artcenter.my.salesforce-sites.com\/ticket\/#\/events\/a0SUe000009rmCbMAI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Saturday<\/a> at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido (340 N. Escondido Blvd.) that opens with a free performance at 2 p.m. by Charlie Ch\u00e1vez y su Afrotruko.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saturday\u2019s show will also include performances by TKTKTKTK inside the center, with <a href=\"https:\/\/artcenter.my.salesforce-sites.com\/ticket\/#\/events\/a0SUe000009rmCbMAI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">tickets<\/a> costing between $54 and $90, including fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also of note, not just for this weekend, but the whole month: Starting today kids 12 and under pay no admission for the month of October at more than 70 museums and venues around both San Diego and Tijuana, including the San Diego Natural History Museum, Legoland, Centro Cultural de la Raza and Tijuana\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cecut.gob.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CECUT<\/a> Cultural Center. A full list of venues, as well as coupons to download and score free admission, can be found at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegomuseumcouncil.org\/specials\/kidsfree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">San Diego Museum Council\u2019s<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>Friday, Oct. 2<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/delmar.wine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Del Mar Wine &amp; Food Festival:<\/a> Technically the festival kicked off on Wednesday night, with more events over the weekend; Friday morning will bring a <a href=\"https:\/\/delmar.wine\/event\/celebrity-pickleball-tournament-benefitting-feeding-san-diego\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">celebrity pickleball tournament<\/a> at the Barnes Tennis Center (4490 W Point Loma Blvd.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with tickets ranging from $125 just to attend, up to $500 or $600 if you\u2019d like to play with a celebrity guest or pro athlete, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <a href=\"https:\/\/delmar.wine\/event\/grand-tasting-2026-day-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Saturday<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/delmar.wine\/event\/grand-tasting-2026-day-two\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sunday,<\/a> the festival will hold its grand tasting at the Surf Sports Park on the Del Mar Fairgrounds (14989 Via de la Valle), with tickets ranging from $185 to $435 both days. Buying the top price VIP tickets for Saturday\u2019s event gets you in earlier than even the $235 Early Entry ticket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegocraft.org\/product\/ddlm-crafting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Dia De Los Muertos \u2013 Let\u2019s Craft Together:<\/a> The <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegocraft.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">San Diego Craft Collective<\/a> will host this special event for anyone looking to put something together for Dia De Los Muertos, which follows Halloween on the calendar and is more about remembering loved ones than going out for candy. This free tutorial will be held at the SDCC\u2019s Liberty Station studio (2590 Truxtun Road, Studio 106), and organizers are asking visitors to RSVP and consider a $15 donation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamesaoktoberfest.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">La Mesa Oktoberfest:<\/a> La Mesa Village (8111 Orange Ave.) is set for its 53rd celebration of Bavaria, which kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday and concludes at 8 p.m. on Sunday night \u2013 three days of beer gardens, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamesaoktoberfest.org\/entertainment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">live music,<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamesaoktoberfest.org\/activities\/kinder-karneval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Kinder Village,<\/a> and local vendors.
