SAN JOSE \u2013 The San Jose Sharks debuted a new goal song<\/a> at SAP Center on Thursday night, and they hope it will last longer than the previous track.<\/p>\n

After winger Mason Marchment scored at the 14:20 mark of the first period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead, the team debuted a song featuring Green Day\u2019s guitar riff<\/a> from their 2005 hit, \u201cHoliday,\u201d with fans chanting \u201cHey\u201d as the track played. The Sharks wanted a song from an artist with Bay Area ties, and Green Day was originally formed in Rodeo.<\/p>\n

After months of public outcry<\/a> for a new, non-AI-generated goal song, the Sharks announced via social media<\/a> \u2014 with help from defenseman Sam Dickinson \u2014 on Sept. 21 that they would have a new one for 2026-27, starting with Thursday\u2019s season-opening game against the Florida Panthers.<\/p>\n

Before the 2025-26 season began, the Sharks decided they needed a new goal song after using \u201cGet Ready For This\u201d by 2 Unlimited for most of the previous nine years and paying royalties.<\/p>\n

Elevated season ticket holders chose from four new selections created by music producer BVRNOUT and picked a track called \u201cPower Bite,\u201d which first debuted during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Oct. 9, 2025, before a sold-out Shark Tank crowd.<\/p>\n

Sharks fans never warmed up to the song, which the team said it would fully own and was \u201cplanning to use it beyond the arena on digital platforms and through remixes.\u201d The song was widely suspected to be AI-generated after members of the Sharks\u2019 subreddit discovered it sounded similar to another AI-generated remix called \u201cSharky Party.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cPower Bite\u201d song got two last spins at SAP Center during the team\u2019s two preseason games, a 2-1 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sept. 22 and a 10-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sept. 24.<\/p>\n

Will Smith was one of the Sharks players who heard the new song last month and said he liked the track.<\/p>\n

Asked if it was an actual song by an actual artist, Smith said, \u201cI don\u2019t even know if I\u2019m supposed to be talking about this,\u201d Smith said with a smile.<\/p>\n
