An AI-generated Instagram profile, which has amassed over 20,000 followers, is currently using SDSU\u2019s brand for the promotion of paid explicit AI content. The account, under the name Kaia Wilder (@kaiawildr), posts AI images of a blonde girl posing as an SDSU communications student. <\/p>\n

Some posts include Wilder dressed in SDSU merch, while others show her posing in AI-generated depictions of the university\u2019s campus. The account also uses SDSU-related hashtags under several posts and tags the university\u2019s Instagram account in its bio. <\/p>\n

Posts repeatedly feature Wilder in sexualized positions, such as wearing nothing but a towel or a rain-soaked shirt exposing her bra. In several of the account\u2019s past stories, there is a link to the subscription-based platform, Fanvue. <\/p>\n

The Fanvue account shows a GIF of Wilder laying on a bed wearing lingerie. Two buttons in the middle of the screen signal users to either pay Wilder directly or to start a seven-day free trial to access her explicit content.<\/p>\n

To access the website through Wilder\u2019s link, users simply have to click a button confirming they are at least 18 years old. No legitimate age verification is required to access the website or purchase content.<\/p>\n

Megan Newton, the senior director of brand marketing and digital media for SDSU, said in a LinkedIn post<\/a> that the profile removed its links to adult content and that interested users had to directly message the AI for the link.<\/p>\n

However, at the time of publication, a link to Wilder\u2019s Fanvue is still accessible on her profile. <\/p>\n

In an email sent to The Daily Aztec, SDSU said that they reported the account to Meta. The university didn\u2019t comment on what preventive measures they would take in the future.<\/p>\n

In the same LinkedIn thread<\/a>, Newton said, \u201cThis AI profile isn\u2019t a huge issue, but we\u2019re thinking about the AI profiles that potentially start or spread misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jake Lieu, a junior at SDSU, agrees that the profile isn\u2019t a major issue, but he said that as AI develops, these accounts could become more harmful. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think most people can tell it\u2019s AI,\u201d Lieu said. \u201cIt looks like AI. But, at the same time, it shouldn\u2019t be happening because eventually AI is going to get there where it\u2019s not going to look like AI.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Lieu also said that there isn\u2019t much that the school can do.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s inevitable\u2026You can try to crack down on it. Nothing is going to really change,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sophomore student Alli Joseph said she felt horrible about SDSU\u2019s brand being used to promote adult content and felt worse when thinking about people paying for such content. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Joseph also expressed concerns about the amount of Earth\u2019s resources required to generate AI content.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re using our resources for this? Neighborhoods are losing power, losing water for this?,\u201d Joseph said. \u201cWe\u2019re all doomed.\u201d <\/p>\n

Instagram recently added a label on Wilder\u2019s profile and posts signaling to users that she is AI-generated. <\/p>\n
