An incident between two Coronado Middle School students Tuesday morning left one student injured and prompted a police response to the campus, authorities said.<\/p>\n
A student on a stretcher was seen being transported from the school by Coronado firefighters.<\/p>\n
Coronado police said on social media that officers responded to the F Avenue campus about 10:20 a.m. for \u201can incident involving two students\u201d at the school. Both children were located, the department said, and one was being treated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no active threat to students or staff at this time,\u201d police said. \u201cThe school is not on lockdown, and out of an abundance of caution, officers are conducting a security sweep of the campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police blocked off traffic on F Avenue between 5th Street and 6th Streets.<\/p>\n
Neither police nor school officials said what specifically happened.\u00a0 In a message send to parents, the school called it \u201can insolated incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOne student sustained an injury as a result of the incident and is currently being transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment,\u201d the school said in the statement, which the district provided to the Union-Tribune. \u201cOut of respect for the student\u2019s privacy, we will not be releasing further details at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The message from the middle school said \u201cthere is no larger threat to the broader student body or staff.\u201d Students and staff were safe, it said, adding that police were investigating and the school was \u201ccooperating fully with local authorities as they review the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n
