Warm nighttime temperatures are expected to provide limited relief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heat Advisories cover portions of northwestern California, the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, the Bay Area, Central Coast and adjacent interior terrain. Extreme Heat Warnings cover parts of Southern California, including coastal and valley zones of Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several products extend well beyond the weekend. The Sacramento Heat Advisory continues through 22:00 PDT on October 7 (05:00 UTC on October 8), while Extreme Heat Warnings issued by the Los Angeles\/Oxnard and San Diego offices remain in effect through 20:00 PDT on October 8 (03:00 UTC on October 9). NWS Los Angeles\/Oxnard described the episode as a major and long-lasting heat wave. Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach reached 39.4\u00b0C (103\u00b0F) on October 2, breaking daily high-temperature records, while Burbank reached 38.9\u00b0C (102\u00b0F) and tied its daily record.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-lazyloaded=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1164\" height=\"816\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/NWS-hazards-map-for-October-3-2026.webp\" alt=\"NWS hazards map for October 3, 2026\" class=\"wp-image-254502\"  data-\/><img loading=\"lazy\" data-lazyloaded=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"899\" height=\"124\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/NWS-hazard-map-legend.webp\" alt=\"NWS hazard map legend\" class=\"wp-image-254503\"  data-\/>Image credit: NOAA\/NWSNWS San Francisco\/Monterey<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco\/Monterey issued its latest Heat Advisory products at 20:53 PDT on October 2 (03:53 UTC on October 3), with the advisories beginning at 11:00 PDT (18:00 UTC) on October 3 across affected portions of the Bay Area and Central Coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">San Francisco, the Marin Hills, Northern Monterey Bay and the Northern Salinas, Hollister and Carmel valleys remain under a Heat Advisory through 22:00 PDT on October 4 (05:00 UTC on October 5). Maximum temperatures are forecast at approximately 27\u201334\u00b0C (low 80s to low 90s\u00b0F). Mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow are expected to limit overnight relief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A longer-duration advisory covers interior portions of the Bay Area and Central Coast through 22:00 PDT on October 5 (05:00 UTC on October 6). The area includes the North Bay interior mountains and valleys, San Francisco Bay shoreline, East Bay interior valleys and hills, Santa Clara Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains, interior Monterey County, much of San Benito County and the southern Salinas Valley. Maximum temperatures are forecast at approximately 35\u201339\u00b0C (mid-90s to low-100s\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p>NWS Hanford<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Heat Advisory issued by NWS Hanford at 17:33 PDT on October 2 (00:33 UTC on October 3) covers the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra foothills from 11:00 PDT (18:00 UTC) on October 3 through 23:00 PDT on October 6 (06:00 UTC on October 7).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temperatures are forecast to reach approximately 39\u00b0C (103\u00b0F), with the hottest conditions in the southern San Joaquin Valley. Overnight lows in Sierra foothill areas where the thermal belt is strongest are forecast at approximately 21\u201324\u00b0C (70\u201375\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NWS Hanford describes a Moderate to Major risk of heat-related illness for much of the population, especially for people without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Temperatures during the episode are forecast about 6\u20138\u00b0C (10\u201315\u00b0F) above average.<\/p>\n<p>NWS Eureka<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NWS Eureka issued a Heat Advisory at 11:47 PDT (18:47 UTC) on October 2 for southern interior Mendocino County and southern Lake County. The advisory is valid from 11:00 to 23:00 PDT on October 3 (18:00 UTC on October 3\u201306:00 UTC on October 4).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach approximately 38\u00b0C (101\u00b0F), with overnight temperatures remaining above approximately 18\u00b0C (65\u00b0F). NWS classifies conditions as Moderate to locally High HeatRisk, with an increased potential for heat-related illness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The advisory includes southwestern and southeastern interior Mendocino County and western, southwestern and eastern Lake County, including Ukiah, Clearlake, Lakeport, Middletown and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n<p>NWS Sacramento<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An expanded Heat Advisory issued by NWS Sacramento at 10:00 PDT (17:00 UTC) on October 2 is in effect across the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys, Delta, Carquinez Strait and foothills. The advisory runs from 11:00 PDT (18:00 UTC) on October 3 through 22:00 PDT on October 7 (05:00 UTC on October 8).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maximum temperatures are forecast at approximately 34\u201338\u00b0C (94\u2013100\u00b0F), while nighttime lows are expected generally around 18\u201322\u00b0C (mid-60s to low-70s\u00b0F). NWS forecasts widespread Moderate HeatRisk with areas of Major HeatRisk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The advisory includes the Sacramento metropolitan area and extends through portions of the northern Sacramento Valley and northern San Joaquin Valley. Above-normal temperatures are expected to persist across interior Northern California over the next several days.<\/p>\n<p>NWS Los Angeles\/Oxnard<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NWS Los Angeles\/Oxnard issued the warning products used in this report at 10:38 PDT (17:38 UTC) on October 2. Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect across the coasts and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and parts of Santa Barbara County through 20:00 PDT on October 8 (03:00 UTC on October 9).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temperatures across Los Angeles and Ventura County coastal and valley zones are forecast to reach approximately 32\u00b0C (90\u00b0F) at the coast and approximately 41\u00b0C (105\u00b0F) in the valleys. The warning covers Downtown Los Angeles, the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, Santa Clarita Valley, coastal Los Angeles County, inland and coastal Ventura County and adjoining hill and mountain areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate Extreme Heat Warning covers the Santa Barbara south coast, Cuyama Valley, Santa Ynez Mountains and Santa Barbara County interior mountains through the same time. Temperatures are forecast to reach approximately 29\u00b0C (85\u00b0F) at the coast and 38\u00b0C (100\u00b0F) in the mountains and Cuyama Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Farther northwest, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 10:00 PDT (17:00 UTC) on October 3 through 20:00 PDT on October 4 (03:00 UTC on October 5) for portions of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, the Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Ynez Valley and southern Salinas Valley. Temperatures are forecast around 32\u00b0C (90\u00b0F) near the coast and approximately 39\u00b0C (103\u00b0F) inland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach reached 39.4\u00b0C (103\u00b0F) on October 2, breaking daily high-temperature records, according to NWS Los Angeles\/Oxnard. Burbank reached 38.9\u00b0C (102\u00b0F) and tied its daily record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Extreme Heat Warning states that very hot temperatures are likely to continue into the second week of October, possibly requiring an extension of the product.<\/p>\n<p>NWS San Diego<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NWS San Diego issued the warning products used in this report at 21:13 PDT on October 2 (04:13 UTC on October 3). Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect across the San Diego County coast and valleys, Orange County coast and inland areas, the Inland Empire and Santa Ana Mountains and foothills through 20:00 PDT on October 8 (03:00 UTC on October 9).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">San Diego County coastal areas are forecast to reach approximately 29\u201334\u00b0C (mid-80s to lower 90s\u00b0F) near the coast and 35\u201338\u00b0C (mid-90s to low-100s\u00b0F) over mesas and higher coastal terrain. Nighttime temperatures are forecast mostly in the low to mid-20s Celsius (70s\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Orange County coastal areas are forecast to reach approximately 29\u201332\u00b0C (mid-80s to around 90\u00b0F) near the coast and 35\u201338\u00b0C (mid-90s to around 100\u00b0F) over higher coastal terrain. Nights are forecast to remain very warm, with lows mostly in the 20s Celsius (70s\u00b0F). Inland Orange County may reach approximately 38\u00b0C (101\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The San Bernardino and Riverside County valleys and San Diego County valleys are forecast to reach approximately 37\u201341\u00b0C (upper 90s to 105\u00b0F), with nighttime lows around 22\u201324\u00b0C (lower to mid-70s\u00b0F). Temperatures in the Santa Ana Mountains and foothills may reach approximately 38\u00b0C (100\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wind Advisories overlap the heat warnings in several inland zones from 06:00 to 18:00 PDT on October 3 (13:00 UTC on October 3\u201301:00 UTC on October 4). Easterly winds of approximately 25\u201340 km\/h (15\u201325 mph), with gusts up to 65 km\/h (40 mph), are forecast for southeastern Orange County valleys and the Santa Ana Mountains and foothills.
