HONOLULU – Playing against his former team, Luke Weaver<\/a> completed 19 of 28 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Jos\u00e9 State (3-2, 1-0 MW) in a 20-16 victory over Hawai\u2018i (1-4, 0-3 MW) on Saturday night at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.<\/p>\n

Weaver connected with Hawai\u2019i native Kamaehu Kopa-Kaawalauole<\/a> for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter before finding Carson Clark<\/a> for a 12-yard score later in the period.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 State led 14-0 at halftime before Hawai\u2018i scored 13 consecutive points, cutting the deficit to one possession with two field goals and a 58-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Trajan Sinatra<\/a> answered with a 24-yard field goal to give the Spartans a 17-13 advantage entering the fourth.<\/p>\n

After Hawai\u2018i brought it back to a one point game on a 44-yard field goal, San Jos\u00e9 State mounted a 12-play, 26-yard drive that consumed 5:31. Sinatra capped the possession with a 30-yard field goal with 1:15 remaining to put the Spartans ahead for good.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Warriors drove into San Jos\u00e9 State territory in the final minute, but the Spartans held on their fourth down hail mary to secure the victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jabari Bates<\/a> led San Jos\u00e9 State on the ground with 74 yards on 27 carries. Clark finished with five receptions for 74 yards, while Jerry McClure<\/a> added four catches for 41 yards.<\/p>\n

Caleb Womack<\/a> and Jayden Robertson<\/a> each recorded an interception while Dylan Lee<\/a> led the Spartans with nine tackles. Jeremiah Tuiileila<\/a> also recorded a career-high two sacks and a forced fumble.<\/p>\n

The Spartans have now won the Dick Tomey Legacy Game six times in a row and have defeated Hawai\u2019i on the road four times in a row
\nThe Spartans have also thrown multiple touchdown passes in nine straight games against the Rainbow Warriors
\nWeaver has thrown multiple touchdowns in four out of five games this season
\nTo go along with his 74 rushing yards, Bates racked up 39 receiving yards, giving him 113 all-purpose yards on the day
\nCooper Hoch<\/a> tallied three receptions for 46 yards, including a clutch one handed grab late in the fourth quarter on fourth down
\nClark\u2019s touchdown was his fourth of the season and he now has at least one touchdown in three consecutive games
\nClark\u2019s 43-yard reception in the third quarter was also a career-long
\nKopa-Kaawalauole\u2019s touchdown was the first of his career
\nThe Spartans shutout Hawai\u2019i in the first half, marking the first time SJSU shutout an opponent in the first half since defeating Wyoming 24-14 on Oct. 19, 2024
\nWomack\u2019s interception was his second of the season and his career
\nRobertson\u2019s interception was his first of the season
\nEthan Powell<\/a> recorded five tackles and his first full sack of the season
\nNaseri Danielson<\/a> recorded his first career tackle for a loss
\nAizik Mahuka<\/a> also record a tackle for a loss
\nTrent Carrizosa<\/a> punted six times, three of which were for over 50 yards and had a long punt of 70 yards<\/p>\n
