A fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian early Sunday morning caused a major closure on northbound Interstate 5 near Airport Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol call logs.<\/p>\n

The crash was reported around 3:42 a.m. According to the call log, a witness told police a vehicle was traveling at a high speed, suddenly hit the brakes and went off the roadway, down an embankment.<\/p>\n

Officer Justin Fetterly, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol\u2019s North Sacramento office, said the incident is being investigated as a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. The person who died is believed to be an adult male and authorities are working to confirm his identity.<\/p>\n

Several vehicles were involved, according to the incident log. Emergency crews, including fire and law enforcement, responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

The CHP issued a SigAlert around 3:56 a.m. and closed the northbound lanes. Drivers were directed to use the Metro Air Parkway exit.<\/p>\n

Investigators remained at the scene for several hours and were also seeking information about another vehicle and a person believed to be connected to the crash.<\/p>\n

By about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, most units had cleared the area, but investigators were still working to gather information.<\/p>\n
