Today I have an outage going on 19 hours,” Ana Brik said.

Brik lives in Kearney Mesa. She’s among many San Diegans who were left in the dark without power since Saturday evening.

“I didn’t sleep all night because it’s way too hot, it was in the 100s,” Brik said.

She wasn’t alone.

Jose Garcia lives in Encanto. He said their neighborhood also experienced a power outage that started Saturday night and lasted into the morning.

“The entire night really hot,” Garcia said.

Brik and Garcia weren’t just worried about their comfort amidst this extreme heat.

They also worried about their financial health and well-being.

“I have medicine that requires refrigeration. I one of my medications costs over $50,000 so I had to go buy ice and I have a cooler and I had to put my medicine in there and I’m just hoping that my medicine is going to be okay,” Brik said.

“Probably picked up 300- 400 dollars’ worth of groceries and coming back home and tried to store it and tried to keep everything cool, but no…things have spoiled, it went on overnight, so we really couldn’t keep a hold of anything,” Garcia said.

Both said they tried getting in contact with SDGE.

“Not on the map, unplanned, and it was not listed for hours, and hours,” Garcia said.

After multiple attempts, they were finally able to talk with a representative.

“They said, we can’t tell you when it’s going to come back on, but we’re working on it,” Brik said.

Saturday morning, Brik and others still woke up without power. A frustrating situation that has some calling for more transparency from SDGE.

“I know we are 19 houses and probably other people have outages but that doesn’t mean we should get ignored. We pay taxes to live in this beautiful city and we deserve the service that we pay for,” Brik said.

Brik’s power was restored and Garcia got his back too, but they worry it could happen again.

On Sunday morning, SDGE also cleared the Public Safety Power Shutoffs for the customers it notified that could be impacted.

They said they will continue monitoring the ongoing period of extreme heat, as prolonged temperatures can increase energy demand and contribute to the outages.

It’s been a very hot weekend in San Diego and power outages reported across the county have left…

[28
74,84,76,75,5094
post-485532","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-diego","tag-san-diego","tag-san-diego-county","tag-san-diego-headlines","tag-san-diego-news","tag-sdge
["GET
