{"id":485582,"date":"2026-10-05T08:50:31","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T08:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/485582\/"},"modified":"2026-10-05T08:50:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T08:50:31","slug":"new-plan-aims-to-revitalize-part-of-east-oakland-shoreline-nbc-bay-area-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/485582\/","title":{"rendered":"New plan aims to revitalize part of East Oakland shoreline \u2013 NBC Bay Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new plan aims to revitalize and develop a 100-acre stretch of the East Oakland shoreline.<\/p>\n<p>Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee spoke Friday about the project at the Oakport Campus, a 100-acre property along the shoreline across Interstate 880 from the Coliseum.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For too long, this stretch of East Oakland&#8217;s shoreline has been fenced off, overlooked, and disconnected from the surrounding community,&#8221; Lee said at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>The land is owned by the East Bay Municipal Utility District and was recently leased for 65 years to SupplyBank.org, an Oakland-based nonprofit that helps families with items including diapers, toiletries and school supplies.<\/p>\n<p>The plan calls for rebuilding one mile of shoreline and developing a 120,000-square-foot center that will house EBMUD and a SupplyBank.org&#8217;s distribution center.<\/p>\n<p>A second phase would eventually add another 160,000-square-foot center where other nonprofits could rent space at fixed, below-market rates.<\/p>\n<p>NBC Bay Area Bob Redell&#8217;s has more in the video above.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A new plan aims to revitalize and develop a 100-acre stretch of the East Oakland shoreline.
