Los Angeles mayoral candidate and Councilmember Nithya Raman delivered a speech in downtown LA on Sunday, outlining her plan for the first 100 days if she is elected mayor.

Raman, who finished second to incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the June primary, is set for a high-stakes runoff in November. Her speech comes less than a month before election day and just before vote-by-mail ballots are sent out.

Raman emphasized homelessness as her top priority, stating, “One of the biggest issues I hear about on the campaign trail is homelessness and the fact that people have lost trust and faith in city hall capacity to address this issue.” She highlighted a 49% reduction in unsheltered people in her district as evidence of her effective approach.

Raman’s plan includes shifting homelessness funding away from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), implementing a “shot clock” for housing permits, and creating new positions to oversee city finances and operations. She also aims to eliminate tents and encampments across LA by the end of her first term and to increase accountability within city government.

Her agenda also focuses on public safety, proposing to scale up unarmed crisis response teams and audit LAPD policies. Raman stated she would replace LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell if elected, citing a lack of responsiveness to immigrant communities.

As the election approaches, both Raman and Bass are actively campaigning. The race is expected to be close, with polls showing Raman slightly ahead. The candidates will face off in a live debate on October 13, hosted by NBC Los Angeles and Telemundo 52.

Los Angeles mayoral candidate and Councilmember Nithya Raman delivered a speech in downtown LA on Sunday, outlining her…

[27
6641,204,1493,4132,48,52,51,47,50,49,79871,80054,1492
post-485982","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-los-angeles","tag-ai-assisted","tag-election","tag-homelessness","tag-karen-bass","tag-la","tag-la-headlines","tag-la-news","tag-los-angeles","tag-los-angeles-headlines","tag-los-angeles-news","tag-mayoral-race","tag-nithya-raman","tag-public-safety
["GET
