disagreement<\/a>\u201d with the president. \u201cDisagreement,\u201d even vehement, is a bit, I don\u2019t know, mild if one heard the president say it was fine to nuke millions of Americans to death but it is nonetheless significant that he would say something. One can disagree over tariff policies, but the annihilation of American cities seems to merit a \u201ccondemnation\u201d or something like that.<\/p>\n\u201cAs a Navy veteran, I served to protect Americans, not write off American cities as an acceptable price of war,\u201d Desmond declared. \u201cOur job is to keep Americans safe, stand up to our enemies, and make sure a threat like that never becomes reality. No American city is expendable, and no American family should ever be treated as collateral damage.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s all fair and basically true. Unfortunately, Desmond also basically agrees with the war and probably wouldn\u2019t vote to stop it if he won the race to succeed Darrell Issa.<\/p>\n
Even going with the charitable interpretation of Trump\u2019s remarks, it\u2019s just wrong. Iran has never been a serious threat to the United States, despite Trump now doing a cheap imitation of John McCain and Lindsey Graham. As the world has seen, Iran barely has anti-missile and anti-aircraft capabilities. It\u2019s a sitting duck for whatever Israel and the United States want to do. Its only advantage is that it can strangle the world\u2019s energy supply via the Strait of Hormuz under the threat of cheap drones.\u00a0 But it only came to that after Trump chose to go to war.<\/p>\n
And no, it\u2019s not worth the increased cost of gas.<\/p>\n
Anyway, if the president of the United States really meant to say it\u2019d be fine if LA and San Diego were taken out, that\u2019s another data point that Trump is probably losing his mind because that\u2019s an insane thing to say. If he didn\u2019t mean that, then wouldn\u2019t it be great to have a president someday who can speak like an intelligible human being again?<\/p>\n
