Elysian Valley\u2014Reader David W. wondered why the right lane of the connector road from the northbound 5 Freeway to the southbound 2 Freeway has been closed. Caltrans spokesperson Colleen Park says the closure is part of a project to seismically retrofit the connector’s bridge and tunnel. Construction on the $15.9 million project will continue until summer or fall 2027 and\u00a0 rehabilitate nearly 52,000 square feet of the bridge and tunnel, and replace 3,200 feet of metal-beam guardrail.
