(FOX26) \u2014 A company is testing self-driving trucks to transport food along Highway 99 between Fresno and Los Angeles, though a human remains in the driver\u2019s seat for now.<\/p>\n<p>Fresno-based DTL Transport Inc. and autonomous driving technology company Kodiak AI began an autonomous trucking pilot on September 22nd, hauling perishable goods between Fresno and a distribution center in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Kodiak described the runs as the first autonomous trucking deliveries under California\u2019s new regulations, according to a Kodiak news release. <\/p>\n<p>The pilot follows Kodiak\u2019s receipt of a heavy-duty Autonomous Vehicle Testing permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles in August.<\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/nation-world\/already-existing-laws-governing-ai-simply-being-ignored-former-regulators-analysts-say-artificial-intelligence-openai-trump-tech-anthropic-ruben-gallego-bill-gates-lina-khan-ftc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Already existing laws governing AI simply being ignored, former regulators, analysts say<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The companies said the collaboration is aimed at helping them better understand how autonomous trucking operations could expand business opportunities for logistics providers and improve supply-chain resilience, reliability, and safety. <\/p>\n<p>They also plan to study how autonomy could affect transit times, shipping costs, and produce shelf life, with the potential to ease pressure from rising food costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
