It\u2019s Long Beach\u2019s 38th traffic death this year \u2022 Long Beach Post News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police said a man was killed while crossing the street in Long Beach\u2019s Zaferia neighborhood early Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crash happened shortly before 5:40 a.m. at the intersection of Junipero Avenue and Anaheim Street, according to Long Beach police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man was walking southbound on Junipero Avenue and began to cross Anaheim Street in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2010 Toyota Prius heading eastbound in the far left lane, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name and age were not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Toyota driver, a man in his 70s, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police spokesperson Andrea Moran wrote in an email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives do not believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were factors in the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long Beach is struggling to reduce traffic deaths. Tuesday\u2019s crash was the city\u2019s 38th fatal collision of the year \u2014 more than double the number of homicides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was also the fifth straight fatality involving a pedestrian.
