A new county analysis puts the industry’s annual economic impact at nearly $1.2 billion, supporting 6,924 jobs through agricultural production, local processing and spending throughout the economy.

For our Rio Linda and Elverta community, the report offers a broader look at agriculture’s place in the county economy. The findings are countywide; they do not identify a separate economic contribution for Rio Linda or Elverta.

Sacramento County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures Chrisandra J. Flores presented the 2025 Crop and Livestock Report to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Oct. 6. This year’s report includes a 14-page analysis examining agriculture’s economic reach beyond farm production values.

Crop Values Rise in 2025

Sacramento County’s crops and livestock had a gross production value of $550.3 million in 2025, an increase of 2.6% over the previous year. That figure measures production value, rather than farmers’ profits.

Wine grapes remained the county’s leading agricultural commodity, valued at $164.4 million. Other leading commodities, in descending order, were processed tomatoes, market milk, pears, aquaculture, nursery stock, poultry, cattle and calves, almonds, and rice.

A Broader Economic Footprint

The accompanying economic analysis uses 2024 data, the latest year for which complete information was available.

For that year, agricultural production, local processing and related economic activity contributed $1.198 billion to the county economy — equivalent to approximately $3.28 million per day.

Agricultural production and processing directly supported 4,977 jobs. An additional 1,947 jobs were supported through economic ripple effects, bringing the total to 6,924.

The analysis also found that Sacramento County agriculture is highly diversified across commodity types. According to the report, that variety helps provide stability and resilience for both agriculture and the broader county economy.

The findings give policymakers, producers and community leaders a more complete picture of agriculture’s economic role when considering decisions affecting the industry.

The full report, including its economic analysis, is available on the Sacramento County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures website. A limited number of printed copies are available at the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office, 4137 Branch Center Road in Sacramento.

Post Views: 60

By John Todd | Rio Linda OnlinePublished Oct. 6, 2026 Agriculture’s contribution to Sacramento County extends well beyond…

[32
121,123,122
post-487610","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sacramento","tag-sacramento","tag-sacramento-headlines","tag-sacramento-news
["GET
