A Hollywood icon has died.<\/p>\n
Eva Marie Saint, the Oscar-winning actress known for \u201cOn the Waterfront\u201d and Alfred Hitchcock\u2019s \u201cNorth by Northwest,\u201d has died at 102. She died Tuesday at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family, according to her publicist.<\/p>\n
Saint won an Academy Award for her role as Edie Doyle in the 1954 classic \u201cOn the Waterfront,\u201d her film debut. She later starred opposite Cary Grant in \u201cNorth by Northwest,\u201d one of Hitchcock\u2019s most celebrated films.<\/p>\n
Her career also extended to television. Saint won an Emmy for the 1990 miniseries \u201cPeople Like Us\u201d and continued working in film and television for decades.<\/p>\n
Saint was also a familiar face in Palm Springs, where she and her husband, television and film director Jeffrey Hayden, spent time over the years.<\/p>\n
She had another connection to the Coachella Valley through Bob Hope. Saint starred with Hope in \u201cThat Certain Feeling,\u201d which premiered at Palm Springs\u2019 historic Plaza Theatre in 1956.<\/p>\n
Saint\u2019s career spanned more than six decades, leaving behind a legacy that included some of Hollywood\u2019s most memorable films.<\/p>\n
