San Jose’s pro women’s hockey team still might not have a name, but it does have a roster just a little over a month before training camp gets underway.

The expansion franchise known for now as PWHL San Jose announced a 29-player training camp roster on Wednesday morning made up of 17 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders. Of those players, 18 are already signed to deals for the upcoming season.

“We’re incredibly excited to get this group together and officially get to work. Training camp gives our staff the opportunity to see the compete level, skill and personality of our players firsthand, while beginning to build the identity of this team,” head coach and general manager Troy Ryan said in a statement. “There’s a lot of energy around bringing a brand-new group together, establishing our standards and creating a style of play we can be proud of. This is where it all starts, and we’re looking forward to everyone contributing to help shape what this team can become.”

The roster is highlighted by No. 4 overall pick Laila Edwards, who is the early face of the franchise. She is joined by U.S. national team defender Rory Guilday and Seattle free agent Mariah Keopple on the blueline.

San Jose also signed a pair of Boston defenders in Daniela Pejšová and Hadley Hartmetz.

Offensively, San Jose brings in Brooke Bryant, a Stockton native who spent last season with Seattle, along with Maggie Connors and Kristin Della Rovere, who worked with Ryan in Toronto. Anne Cherkowski projects to be a top-six forward along with Team Canada’s Kristin O’Neill. Montreal free agent Natálie Mlýnková should also get a chance to electrify the offense after scoring five goals with five assists last season.

Maddi Wheeler, who joins San Jose from New York, will get plenty of ice time on offense as well.

Rookies Sloane Matthews, Reich Kirchmair, Lily Shannon and McKenna Van Gelder are joined by Edwards and goaltender Tia Chan.

Corinne Schroeder, San Jose’s first signing, leads the goaltender depth chart alongside former Boston goalie Abbey Levy.

Ryan also brought in non-roster invitees who have a chance to make the team, such as Savannah Norcross, who played 23 games for New York last season before sustaining a lower-body injury and missing the rest of the season. Italian national team forward Justine Reyes, former Minnesota reserve blueliner Ava Rinker and rookie defender Stephanie Bourque also got training camp invites.
