After more than seven decades on the same turf, the Vikings are moving in with the Saints. This is not a blockbuster NFL consolidation, but a college team looking for a home while its stadium is being rebuilt.

Long Beach City College announced Tuesday it will relocate its football program during the 2026 season to the 1,200-seat facility used by St. Anthony High School.

The high school stadium, built in 2023, sits on a 10-acre site at Clark Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard. It will be used to host LBCC’s home football games, as well as practice space for the college’s track and field teams.

Administrators and school trustees say this move ensures the Vikings program stays in Long Beach and is relatively close for families, students and boosters to continue attending games.

“Veterans Stadium has been home to generations of Vikings, so we knew this transition had to be about more than finding another field,” said Kal Stewart, LBCC Associate Dean and Director of Athletics.

Veterans Stadium is closed while the college builds a new athletics complex on the site. Construction includes a demolition of the stadium expected in November, followed by a $250 million build slated to be finished by 2029.

Once complete, the 18-acre site will include a 10,000-seat outdoor stadium and a 2,500-seat indoor arena, along with fields or courts for football, soccer and track, basketball and volleyball. Athletic training and rehab facilities, offices, kinesiology classrooms and a hall of champions are also planned.

Stacey Toda, a spokesperson for LBCC, said the college is still searching for a place to host its graduation ceremonies in the spring.

After more than seven decades on the same turf, the Vikings are moving in with the Saints.
