Few positive developments emerged at the highest level. The team scored 4.13 runs per game, good for 26th in the majors. Their pitching wasn’t much better, allowing 4.33 runs per contest, which placed them 23rd overall. These aren’t the results expected from a team with a $190 million payroll. Now entering GM Zack Minasian’s third season at the helm, the organization will look to get back on track heading into 2027.

Nearly everyone on the roster is under contract or eligible for arbitration entering 2027. Normally, this would be fantastic news for an organization’s fans, but Bay Area fans probably aren’t thrilled about this particular collection of players. Rafael Devers is still on the books for the next seven years, making over $30 million annually through 2034. The offensively-challenged franchise will rely on him for a good chunk of its total production, and the soon-to-be 30-year-old first baseman clubbed 37 home runs over 148 contests last year. His lack of defensive versatility and the presence of Bryce Eldridge mean one of them will be deployed as a designated hitter whenever both are healthy. The rest of the starting lineup could use some improvements. Jung Hoo-Lee, whose production has plateaued the last couple of years, and Casey Schmitt will bookend the outfield. Harrison Bader and Drew Gilbert should see time in center field. 2026 revelation Jonah Cox should also see consistent playing time, whether it’s in the outfield or pushing second baseman Marcelo Mayer to the bench. Matt Chapman and Willy Adames should bounce back after atrocious 2026 campaigns, but to what extent?

San Francisco enters the offseason with three healthy major league starting pitchers: Logan Webb, Landen Roupp, and potentially Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson. Minasian and Buster Posey will have to explore starting pitchers outside the current roster, as four internal options (Birdsong, Tidwell, McDonald, and Whisenhunt) underwent Tommy John surgery in 2026 and are expected to miss at least part of the 2027 campaign. If the front office doesn’t land upgrades, organizational depth like Cesar Perdomo and Carson Seymour could open the season in the starting rotation. Their bullpen also ranked in the bottom-10 last year and was propped up by unexpected, probably unrepeatable seasons from Trent Harris and Sam Hentges. They will welcome Randy Rodriguez and Rowan Wick back from Tommy John, but it’s hard to guess how effective they’ll be after such lengthy layoffs. This is a situation to avoid for fantasy purposes.

On the plus side, the minor league system is more talented than it’s been in many years. Six prospects rank inside our top 120 heading into the offseason. Unfortunately for San Francisco fans, most of them are probably a few years away from the sport’s highest level. Youngsters Josuar Gonzalez (PLIVE rank: 28) and Jhonny Level (36) are both just 19 years old, and 42nd-ranked Luis Hernandez doesn’t turn 18 until December. They used the fourth overall pick of the 2026 draft to select righty Jackson Flora. The 6’5 righty checks in at 52nd in our live prospect rankings, and the organization hopes he will move quickly through the minors. The Giants shipped Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian to the Phillies to acquire Ramon Marquez at the trade deadline, and the righty has risen 365 spots in our rankings this season, up to 108th. Bo Davidson should have a major role at the major league level in 2027 and is already up to 120th on our list. Plenty of fun names sit further down the organizational list as well, including absolute toolshed Dakota Jordan (270) and 2025 first round pick Gavin Kilen (200). Argenis Cayama (212; +206), Jacob Bresnahan (219; +349), and 29th overall 2026 pick Carson Bolemon (226) could all eventually be major league starters. The future is looking brighter in the City by the Bay, but a return to playoff form may be several years away.

2027 Dynasty Outlooks – Prospects Live

Dynasty BuysJacob Bresnahan

Bresnahan compiled a 3.22 ERA and struck out 135 batters over 114.2 innings pitched this past season. The 21-year-old reached Double-A and should start the 2027 season in Richmond. His above-average or better fastball and changeup have carved up hitters at the lower levels, and he has plenty of time to develop a passable breaking ball. The 6’3 lefty saw his fastball tick up to 95 this season, and his slider is starting to come around. He’s currently ranked outside of our top 200 prospects, but a good month to open the season should vault him back onto the industry radar.

Trevor Cohen

The 2025 third round pick has a plus hit tool and above-average wheels. The 22-year-old held his own in his first taste of Double-A, and managed an 88.4% contact rate over 49 games. Cohen, a left-handed hitter, hit 43 extra base hits in 2026 while stealing 46 bases in 129 games. He’s outside of our top 600 prospects, but his above-average defense and bat-to-ball skills may land him in a major league lineup sooner rather than later. Keep in mind that Richmond suppresses home runs, so his meager total (6) could easily improve with a change of venue and physical maturation.

Dynasty SellsGavin Kilen

The second baseman is still ranked at 200th on our live prospect list, despite a pretty disappointing 2026 campaign. The 13th overall pick of the 2025 draft was billed as having an above-average hit tool and speed. The hit tool is legitimate, but he stole only one base in four attempts this season. After a bit of a power surge to start the campaign, he connected for just two home runs over his final 38 games. Once again, Richmond is a tough place to hit for power. The profile is pretty similar to Cohen (above). The difference is that one is considered a top-200 talent and the other is outside of the top 600.

Willy Adames

The easy sell is Matt Chapman, but what is a manager realistically going to get in return for a 33-year-old below-average hitter at his position? Adames is 31 years old and has hit 20+ home runs for six consecutive seasons. His efforts are appreciated, but his fantasy utility is fading. His contact rate has always been highly suspect, but his 87.4 MPH average exit velocity, .222 xBA, and .296 xwOBA suggest his best campaigns are behind him. In addition to declining contact and power, he managed just 5 stolen bases over 505 plate appearances last year.

Top Fantasy Prospects

Players are in order of their fantasy prospect ranking from our PLive Rankings at time of publishing. Dynasty Rankings in parenthesis.

1. Josuar Gonzalez #28 (#185), IF (A)

139 PLIVE+, Peak Projection: 15 HR, 19 SB, 10.0% BB, 21.3% K, .254/.331/.406, 106 wRC+

Gonzalez entered 2026 as a top-30 prospect in our rankings, and after completing his first full season stateside, he remains in the top 30. A 5’10” shortstop, Gonzalez may be the cream of a very nice crop of middle infield prospects currently in the Giants system. Gonzalez was 18 years old for all of the 2026 season, and he earned a quick promotion to Single-A after dominating at the Complex to begin the year. Gonzalez may have been even better at the plate at Single-A, putting up a .357/.444/.566 slash line and a 151 wRC+ over 31 games. Defensively, Gonzalez has all the makings of an MLB shortstop and has the ceiling of a five-category fantasy stud and future top-5 overall prospect. – David Gofman

2. Jhonny Level #36 (#212), SS (A+)

137 PLIVE+, Peak Projection: 19 HR, 16 SB, 7.4% BB, 19.0% K, .256/.316/.420, 104 wRC+

It was a year of growth for the diminutive Giant’s infielder in 2026. Level started the season hot and carried it through, finishing with a .311/.374.513 line/.513 line with 18 HR and 26 SB, splitting time at Single-A and High-A. Level swings aggressively (54% swing rate, 40% chase), but has good enough contact skills to be successful, at least in the lower minors. The switch hitter’s real test will come once he reaches Double-A and faces more advanced pitching. Evaluators wondered whether Level could generate enough power, and he proved he could by learning to pull the ball in the air enough to make it work. The 5’8 Venezuela-native won’t turn 20 until March of next season, so there is still time to make gains in the strength department. He’s been a superior hitter from the left side, posting a .941 OPS as compared to .714 from the right; keep an eye on this in 2027. Where he plays long-term is still in flux (especially with a couple of other young studs in the system), but there aren’t a ton of flaws in this profile, and Level should continue to rise steadily up the Giants system. He’s cracked the top 40 in our PLive Rankings and should be valued in that range for dynasty. – Greg Hoogkamp

3. Luis Hernández #42 (#225), SS (A)

Peak projection data not available

It’s not always easy to evaluate DSL kids because they’re…well, kids. Luis Hernandez will still be a teenager until December of 2028, which means he has both a ton of fun projection and a ton of obstacles to overcome along the way. While Hernandez didn’t look fantastic in his USA pro debut this season, he still smacked a couple bombs during his 20-game stint while keeping the strikeout rate below 30%. If you’re that young in pro ball, it’s fine to simply survive (they can’t all be Eli Willits), but next year the expectations will start to ramp up – and those expectations are mighty lofty depending on who you ask. Despite his smaller frame, some folks have Luis Hernandez pegged as a 4- or 5-tool prospect who should be able to find a home at 3B or SS in the bigs, with power potentially being limited if he sticks around in San Francisco. For dynasty purposes, be patient in case the development doesn’t happen overnight. – Darren Eisenhauer

4. Jackson Flora #52 (#268), RHP (A)

97 PLIVE-, Peak Projection: 5.15 ERA, 19.6% K, 9.9% BB, 9.7% K-BB, 41.4% GB

                    Sign up for Prospects Live

Your one stop shop for Dynasty Fantasy Baseball, MLB Draft, Baseball Card & MiLB Baseball content.
